Neither Ubuntu 11.04 nor Ubuntu 11.10 contain 9.2, as at that time 9.2 wasn't released yet. Presumably your friend is using https://launchpad.net/~pitti/+archive/postgresql or http://pgapt.debian.net/ (but be aware that neither are officially supported).
