and, ran the following command:

>java -jar postgresql-8.3-604.jdbc4.jar
Failed to load Main-Class manifest attribute from
postgresql-8.3-604.jdbc4.jar

>java -version
java version "1.6.0_14"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_14-b08)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 14.0-b16, mixed mode)

I'm not sure why you'd expect that command to do something.  The JDBC
driver is a library, not an application.
