Some errors in PostgreSQL installestion

Dear PQSQL staff,

I've met several errors in the installation of postgreSQL. I want to stress
you that I'm new and inexpert in this kind of installation.

I've downloaded from the mirror site the version "postgresql-8.2.4-1.zip"
and I've started to lunch the installation of PostgreSQL, but when the
launching application asks me to "initialized DB cluster" I entered in a big
confusion becouse I don't know which kind of port number I have to insert.
However I skip this menu (http://pginstaller.projects.postgresql.org/ ) and
these information and I proceed with the last part of installation that I
brought to the final step.

Now, if I try to start psql.exe it crashes immediately.

Could you give me some ideas and some instruction to overcome my personal
problems?

Well I specify you also that I'm installed all on a PC with an Operative
System that is Windows XP and to try the potentiality of this Program I
don't want to install on remote but only in local on my personal PC.

Awaiting for your answer,

I Wish you my best regards,

Alberto Redolfi.

Did you try just going with the defaults to all the questions? That
normally works for me.
