I don't see the word PostgreSQL anywhere in there.

Is the real reason Sun bought mysql because Jonathon got tired of people
making fun of his inability to pronounce postgres-q-l ?!?

In what ways does the investment in Greenplum translates into support for the PostgreSQL project?

I only ask because I don't much about the relationship that GreenPlum has with the project.

Its indirect for sure but it is there. Greenplum for example is a major
sponsor of the current proposal for the new partitioning features coming
up in 8.4.

Yep, we are contributors and a working example of PostgreSQL solving the world's important data challenges (wait for upcoming customer announcements of near petabyte systems).

Granted we've done so with modified product, but we retain compatibility through interfaces and share code as much as possible.  From my viewpoint the relationship is symbiotic between PostgreSQL and Greenplum.

Perhaps he'll use the influence this investment gives him to get Greenplum to
rename Bizgres to BizgreSQL.

Greenplum have sponsored me in the past, from which we got Partitioning
and some major Sort improvements, as well as research into faster
loading. Greenplum engineers have provided a number of performance fixes
as well, mainly around the loading mechanisms. They've also provided
sponsorship for conferences and meetings, all very important.

For 8.4 we have some commitments to further development of partitioning,
plus hopes that bitmap indexes will be reworked for inclusion. With the
additional funding, I think we'll see those things happen.
