To allow this ip address(192.168.2.1) to work without a password, you may want to try this instead:

host  all  all  192.168.2.1/32  trust

Have you started the Postmaster in 'interactive' mode? You need to pass the
-i option to it.

If you are using pg_ctl:
pg_ctl -D /path/to/data/dir -o "-i" start

THINK BEFORE YOU PRINT - Save paper if you don't really need to print this

Hi,

I suppose the CIDR-ADDRESS mask length needs more attention. You have
specified it as 254 and you IP says it as a single host. Why cant you try
with 32 as the mask length.

Try replacing listen_address=* with listen_addresses=<hostname> in
postgresql.conf

FYI:
http://www.postgresql.org/docs/8.0/interactive/client-authentication.html

Try starting the server process ./postmaster -i -D datadir path &

For instance, i have set it as
host test test 192.16.1.1/32 trust

Thanks,

Also, put listen_address ='*' instead of listen_address = * (Put the
sigle quotes)

If you opt for listen_address = '<hostname_ip', <hostname_ip> must be
the IP address of the machine where your PostgreSQL server is running
on.

Hope u get sorted

Makgati.
