Thread: OT: Why elefant?
Hello, for my new website I design at the moment, I will explain, why the elefant is choosen to identify postgreSQL, but I couldn't find anything. Has anyone in this list a public text, why the elefant is used or an e-mail address of a person from postgreSQL, who can give me an answer? Thank you very much Daniel

My guess would be because folklore says an elephant never forgets.

Thank you and all others, I thought it has deep religious roots, but when I remember me to my last seen documentations about elephants (in german it is Elefant, so please excuse me for the "f") they really never forget where they where born, where there is water,..... Nice, nice nice..... Daniel

BTW, I always thought "elephants never forget" was just a nursery tale, but apparently there is some scientific evidence for elephants having long memories. Googling turned up this for instance: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/1285532.stm regards, tom lane

I do believe, although I cannot say why, that the elephant is used because it's an animal that can remember things for a long, long time. -- Tim Ellis Senior Database Architect and author, tedia2sql (http://tedia2sql.tigris.org) If this helped you, http://svcs.affero.net/rm.php?r=philovivero
