installation on Redhat 6.2

Could you please tell me the least error prone way to install the latest
possible version of PostgreSQL on Linux 6.2? I have no choice but to use
6.2. I already have MySql installed and working and now I want to compare
PostgreSQL. I am told it is much better, the documentation certainly bears
that out, but the rpm packages for RedHat 7.1 do not install properly. I
would really appreciate any help you can give!
Thanks,
Rob

Well, I'm installing v7.1.3 as we type...
I did a tar zxvf postgresql-7.1.3.tar.gz; that unpacked the source and
created the postgresql-7.1.3 directory.
cd to that directory and read INSTALL. That should get you started!

You can rebuild from the source RPM. See the README.rpm-dist (available off
the postgresql.org website for reading) for the details. The source RPM
should rebuild without hassle on Red Hat 6.2.
