Thread: [OT] PgSQL Feature List
Hi, I'm in the process of quoting a completely free software solution to a client, and need to make the choice of software attractive with feature lists (I know PgSQL is the Ultimate Database, but how do I convince the buyer? :-) You won't believe that I spent more than 4 hours last night, trying to find simple, pointwise feature lists for such popular software as Sendmail (no, a ready-made feature list doesn't exist), Apache, Bind, etc. OK, these are more or less ready. Now the Rs 64000 question: is such a feature list available for PostgreSQL? Would appreciate any pointers/URL's you may have. TIA and regards, -- Raju -- Raju Mathur raju@kandalaya.org http://kandalaya.org/

Among other things there is a link to the Features page. Release notes are good too. I don't think you'd have to look to hard, just a little. --
Hi Richard, I came, I saw, I was disappointed. Looks like I'll have to roll a feature list by hand, which is necessarily going to be incomplete since I don't have much experience with PgSQL. Hi Raju - You're basically looking for marketing materials, which has never been a strength of open source projects: it's a business need, really. The problem seems to be that an old list is _worse_ than no list, and noone has the time/incentive to keep a list up to date. If you do write something up, be sure to send a copy back to the lists, so at least it's in the archives, with a date on it, for the next person. Another place to look is www.greatbridge.com. GreatBridge is having a go at providing commercial distributions of PostgreSQL. As a business, they've the incentive to keep this kind of marketing materials up to date.
