Thread: Ctrl+V Hot key defined twice

Ctrl+V Hot key defined twice

From

Date:
Hi,

I don't know how to submit a ticket or bug report, but on the last
versions 1.10.0,..,1.10.2, the Query Window have the hot key Crtl+V
assigned to two different commands: Paste (the usual behavior) and to
Uppercase. As a consequence, the paste function using Crtl+V does not
work. Although it is really a minor issue, the user experience is very
bad.
>From reading the code pgadmin/frm/frmQuery.cpp, Crtl+U should be
assigned to the upper case function, but I don't know why, Ctrl+V is
used instead, in the compiled version.
I'm running pgadmin3 on Ubuntu 9.10+Gnome 2.28.1.

Help is appreciated to solve the issue.

Regards,

Jorge

AFAICT, it works with Ctrl-U/Ctrl-u for me. This code has not changed
since 13 months. I downloaded the Debian source package, and I don't
find any patch to change that. I also installed the ubuntu package, I
don't find this issue in it.

Which release do you use? and which install package did you download?

Oh, just think about this, which language do you use? some translators
seem to have used Ctrl-V instead of Ctrl-U:

guillaume@laptop:~/freeprojects/git.pgadmin/i18n(ticket3) $ grep -A1
"pper case" */pgadmin3.po | grep msgstr | grep "Ctrl-V"
af_ZA/pgadmin3.po-msgstr "&Plak\tCtrl-V"
ar_SA/pgadmin3.po-msgstr "ال&صق\tCtrl-V"
bg_BG/pgadmin3.po-msgstr "&Поставяне\tCtrl-V"
de_CH/pgadmin3.po-msgstr "&Einfügen\tCtrl-V"
el_GR/pgadmin3.po-msgstr "&Επικόλληση\tCtrl-V"
fa_IR/pgadmin3.po-msgstr "&چسباندن\tCtrl-V"
fi_FI/pgadmin3.po-msgstr "&Liitä\tCtrl-V"
gl_ES/pgadmin3.po-msgstr "&Pegar\tCtrl-V"
hr_HR/pgadmin3.po-msgstr "&Nalijepi\tCtrl-V"
hu_HU/pgadmin3.po-msgstr "&Beillesztés\tCtrl-V"
id_ID/pgadmin3.po-msgstr "&Paste\tCtrl-V"
ko_KR/pgadmin3.po-msgstr "붙여넣기(&P) \tCtrl-V"
nl_NL/pgadmin3.po-msgstr "&Plakken\tCtrl-V"
pt_BR/pgadmin3.po-msgstr "Colar\tCtrl-V"
pt_PT/pgadmin3.po-msgstr "Maiúsc&ulas\tCtrl-V"
ro_RO/pgadmin3.po-msgstr "&Lipeste\tCtrl-V"
sk_SK/pgadmin3.po-msgstr "&Vložiť\tCtrl-V"
sl_SI/pgadmin3.po-msgstr "&Prilepi\tCtrl-V"
sv_SE/pgadmin3.po-msgstr "K&listra in\tCtrl-V"
tl_PH/pgadmin3.po-msgstr "Idikit\tCtrl-V"
tr_TR/pgadmin3.po-msgstr "&Yapıştır\tCtrl-V"
ur_PK/pgadmin3.po-msgstr "&چسپا\tCtrl-V"

Yeah, it seems a rather common issue :-/

Can you tell me if you use one of them? my guess would be pt_PT.

Hi Guillaume,

In fact, I'm using the pt_PT translation.

Thank you for discovering the problem. I think it should be corrected
also in other languages.

I've changed from Ctrl+V to Ctrl+U in i18n/pt_PT/pgadmin3.po, but the
Makefile does not generate a newer .mo file.

If it is easy for you, please tell me how to generate another *.mo. I've
already tried 'make clean', but without success. Otherwise, I will try
to investigate it a little further. Anyway, your hint was very valuable.
Thanks!

Regards,

Jorge

I think so. Will change it.

No, you need to use the msgfmt tool this way:

LANG=C msgfmt -o pgadmin3.mo pgadmin3.po

in the i18n/pt_PT directory.

You're welcome :)

Cher Guillaume,

The solution was really simple, as you pointed out. Please apply it
other languages, as well.

Thank you very much.

À bientôt!

Jorge

Thanks :)

I commited the fix for the pt_PT language. The other languages don't
need it right now. This bogus translation is marked fuzzy for all of
them (and so, are not used).
