Hi Lorenzo, I had what would appear to be the same problem last year.
 
Take a look at the two blog articles that I wrote at the time .... http://www.dignitas.ltd.uk/blog/2008/04.html
 
Read them both before you start, so that you are prepared for the frustration the second one brought, should it happen to you as well !!!
 
Having installed this last April, the server, Centos and PostgreSQL have been rock solid ever since, so it is worth the effort.

What error message(s) do you get?
What does it say in the logs?
Is pgAdmin on the same machine or connecting from across a network?
Have you double-checked that the credentials you supply are correct?

Sorry for the basic questions, but you need to give a bit more detail
for people to help you.... :-)
