Thread: A few questions about srings to be translated
Hi all, While updating the Italian translation, I collected a few questions related to the strings of pgadmin3 pot file: 1. what exactly are "blocks hit"? Is this a quantity of blocks requested by transactions and already in RAM? #: src/schema/pgDatabase.cpp:578 src/schema/pgDatabase.cpp:598 #: pgadmin/schema/pgDatabase.cpp:686 pgadmin/schema/pgDatabase.cpp:728 msgid "Blocks Hit" msgstr "Blocchi colpiti" 2. when a string contains an ampersand, it should be used in order to select the character to be used as shortcut (in a menu or other GUI element). This string is shown as "_Connetti" on the right click menu openend on che connections list. Why? #: src/dlg/dlgServer.cpp:466 src/dlg/dlgServer.cpp:473 #: pgadmin/schema/pgServer.cpp:1309 pgadmin/schema/pgServer.cpp:1433 msgid "&Connect" msgstr "&Connetti" 3. I think the work "character" in this sentence should be replaced by "key": #: standard input:888 pgadmin/ui/frmOptions.xrc:46 #: pgadmin/ui/frmOptions.xrc:48 msgid "Use TAB character for autocompletion" msgstr "Usare il tasto TAB per il completamento automatico" 4. This word is translated differently, according to the gender, in Italian. «Predefinito» or «Predefinita» are correct translations, but in order to select the right one, we have to specify a more complete frase. Is is possible to change a few places in order to specify something like "default language" or "default value" instead of just "default"? # src/schema/pgdomain.cpp:78 src/ui/frmOptions.cpp:83 standard input:5 # src/schema/pgdomain.cpp:78 src/ui/frmOptions.cpp:83 standard input: # src/schema/pgdomain.cpp:78 src/ui/frmOptions.cpp:83 standard input:5 # src/schema/pgdomain.cpp:78 src/ui/frmOptions.cpp:83 standard input:6 # src/schema/pgdomain.cpp:78 src/ui/frmOptions.cpp:83 standard input:13 # standard # standard #: src/frm/frmOptions.cpp:116 src/schema/pgColumn.cpp:210 #: src/schema/pgDomain.cpp:101 src/schema/pgType.cpp:138 standard input:62 #: input:93 input:639 src/frm/frmOptions.cpp:129 src/frm/frmReport.cpp:1294 #: src/schema/pgColumn.cpp:217 src/schema/pgType.cpp:139 input:67 input:98 #: input:696 pgadmin/frm/frmOptions.cpp:153 pgadmin/frm/frmReport.cpp:1278 #: pgadmin/schema/pgColumn.cpp:237 pgadmin/schema/pgDomain.cpp:101 #: pgadmin/schema/pgType.cpp:174 pgadmin/ui/dlgConversion.xrc:5 #: pgadmin/ui/dlgDomain.xrc:6 pgadmin/ui/dlgType.xrc:18 #: pgadmin/frm/frmOptions.cpp:142 pgadmin/frm/frmReport.cpp:1280 #: pgadmin/schema/pgColumn.cpp:298 pgadmin/schema/pgType.cpp:186 #: pgadmin/ui/dlgType.xrc:29 msgid "Default" msgstr "Predefinito" 5. what's a "dead tuple"? It is presente in sentences like those: #: pgadmin/schema/pgTable.cpp:800 pgadmin/schema/pgTable.cpp:1049 msgid "Dead Tuple Count" msgstr "Conto delle ennuple morte" #: pgadmin/schema/pgTable.cpp:801 pgadmin/schema/pgTable.cpp:1050 msgid "Dead Tuple Length" msgstr "Lunghezza delle ennuple morte" #: pgadmin/schema/pgTable.cpp:802 pgadmin/schema/pgTable.cpp:1051 msgid "Dead Tuple Percent" msgstr "Percentuale delle ennuple morte" 6. Is this the maximum number of allowed simultaneous connections to the database? # standard input:1 # standard input:1 # standard #: pgadmin/schema/pgDatabase.cpp:464 pgadmin/schema/pgRole.cpp:266 msgid "Connection limit" msgstr "Limite connessione" Thanks, Giuseppe

Key could (in theory) be wrong. > > 4. My concern is that in English is would look very odd to have (for example): User language [Default language] instead of User language [Default ] > > 5. what's a "dead tuple"? It is presente in sentences like those: A tuple that cannot be seen by any transactions. > 6.
