Hey, FC2 rpm is ready!

Hi,

After very hard work of 5 months, with sleepless nights ( :-D ) I'm proud
to announce the pgadmin3 1.2.0-post-beta1 rpm for Fedora Core 2 :-)

It was funny that I couldn't build it since 5 months :) I found out my
mistake (RTFM!).

Anyway... the rpm is ready. I'll upload the FC2 rpm and SRPM to

http://www.pgadmin.org/snapshots/linux/SRPMS/
http://www.pgadmin.org/snapshots/linux/FC2

in an hour.

I'll automate this process again, as I did before, so everyday the new
FC2 RPM for new snapshot will be uploaded to there.

Next step: I'll build the rpm of wxWidgets for FC2...

Regards,

Thanks - it might take longer than an hour to rsync up to www though...

We're not holding binaries of wxWidgets any more - they were all
hopelessly out of date anyway and all the developers were building from
source.

It would be good though it you could build a real beta1 just for
completeness.

Regards, Dave.

PS, will this version run on FC1?

I followed the instructions of Diego, cleaned up old wx and other stuff.
also unix_compilation.html was my guide, too.

Umm, the package is 24 MB, I'm using 512K DSL at work so I'll be able to
upload it after everyone goes home. Let's say 6 hours later.

But... I think if we didn't compile pgadmin3 with --enable-static, then
the package size would be smaller. People would install wxWidgets once;
and then pgadmin3. So I believe we should build wxWidgets rpm.

Ok, done:

pgadmin3-1.2.0-beta1.i686.rpm
pgadmin3-1.2.0-beta1.src.rpm

:)

will upload these ones with the other ones tonite.

> PS, will this version run on FC1?

I have a FC1 box but it does not run a gui. I believe the SRPM will help
people using FC1.

Also... FC1 has been moved (or will be moved shortly) to fedora legacy
project. I'm not sure that we'll need to support FC1.

You're right, but a wx package we're relying on should be official.
2.5.3 will probably be useful for us, as soon as it's released.

Andreas

OK. Don't forget, you upload to developer.pgadmin.org, but
www.pgadmin.org is a completely different machine which rsyncs the
snapshots from developer every few hours. Ftp is the same - that rsyncs
up to developer.postgresql.org, and then to ftp.postgresql.org!!

The problem is that we often update wxWidgets as well, so they end up
downloading 2 large RPMs. We also then potentially run into all sorts of
support problems because ppl don't necessarily realise this, or, they
have vanilla versions of wx installed on their system anyway because it
came with it and end up trying to compile against that. Bottom line is,
it's easier and less troublesome to use a static build.

We still have RH9 users...

I can directly upload to ftp.postgresql.org, if you want ;)

Ok :) I have RH9 at home. I'll do it.

I'll bet you can't :-)

Oh, that wasn't a hint - I was just pointing out that ppl don't all
upgrade immediately. I still have a server running PG 7.3.something on
Slackware 7.1 for example.

That said, if you can do it that would be good - Jean-Michel used to do
the RH9 build, but he's not around at the moment.

Cheers, Dave.

I'm using dial-up (with 28.8K modem) at home. I'll bring the sources with
a CD, and will bring the rpms back to work and upload them at work. It
will take 2 days , but I'll do.
