Thread: pgAdmin3 works in KNOPPIX.
Hi Dave. I tried KNOPPIX by the preparation for the show of the example. Then, it hit a problem.:-( KNOPPIX is linux of the genealogy of debian. http://www.knoppix.org/ As for the problem, deadlock happens in pthread.:-( It does the origin in wxWindows-pgAdmin3-20031010-9 being established as standard in our team. I thought variously, and tried it. Then, it was tried with wxWindows-20040105-CVS being developed separately. It works perfectly.:-) See this. http://www.postgresql.jp/~saito/knoppix_screen.png And binary this. http://www.postgresql.jp/~saito/knoppix_pgadmin3-1.0.3.tgz regards, Hiroshi Saito

I believe Andreas was going to look at updating our wx snapshot so this should be resolved then. Does KNOPPIX use the Debian packaging system? Regards, Dave.
Hi, thanks to a friend of me (yes, thank you herve!), I'm back online :) Dave Page wrote: >>-----Original Message----- >>From: Hiroshi Saito [mailto:saito@inetrt.skcapi.co.jp] >>Sent: 20 January 2004 20:56 >>To: Dave Page >>Cc: pgadmin-hackers@postgresql.org; Raphaël Enrici; Jean-Michel POURE >>Subject: pgAdmin3 works in KNOPPIX. >> >>Hi Dave. >> >>I tried KNOPPIX by the preparation for the show of the example. >>Then, it hit a problem.:-( >> >>KNOPPIX is linux of the genealogy of debian. >>http://www.knoppix.org/ >> >>As for the problem, deadlock happens in pthread.:-( It does >>the origin in wxWindows-pgAdmin3-20031010-9 being established >>as standard in our team. >>I thought variously, and tried it. >> >>Then, it was tried with wxWindows-20040105-CVS being >>developed separately. >>It works perfectly.:-) >> >> > >Excellent. Jean-Michel and I were talking about knoppix when I received this mail :) knoppix is based on debian (should I say, "IS" a debian system) and it uses the debian packaging system. Our debian packages for debian unstable should install ok on a knoppix based distro. Regards, Raphaël

Knoppix is based on a Debian unstable distribution, but includes some non-standard .deb packages. Knoppix can be updated to a nearly full Debian installation using "apt-get dist-upgrade". In the same field, there is also a distribution called Morphix (http://www.morphix.org), which shares code with Knoppix. In my opinion, Morphix seems to be more interesting as their team works on various installation programs like: - disk partitioner, - installer to disk, - GUI to create a distribution. (some are only available in CVS) Like Hiroshi wrote, many people are looking for a distro gathering all software needed to demonstrate, install and administrate PostgreSQL databases... Looking at Morphix, sometimes I am not sure that PostgreSQL really needs a Windows port. I really don't know now. Before I used to "know". Now, I know that I don't know. Of course, on the short term, PostgreSQL needs a Windows port. A Windows port can multiply the number of users by five immediately. But on the long run, maybe 10 years, MS Windows will simply disappear. The advance of GNU/Linux is now like an exponential curve. Even my neighbours, who are 50 years old, look at Morphix and Synaptic and say "Whaooo, please install them". Cheers, Jean-Michel

Oh, Thanks for the additional info. :-) (snip) > > Like Hiroshi wrote, many people are looking for a distro gathering all > software needed to demonstrate, install and administrate PostgreSQL > databases... Yes, I thinks so. The user meeting of us Japan will prove it in this one for the show. KNOPPIX is popularity in Japan. "Satoshi- Nagayasu" of our team member made it in the main thing.:-) Then, PostgreSQL and pgAdmin come in, and it is hoping that it can be distributed to the whole Japanese user. Because I am busy for a while, the answer of the mail seems to be improper. -> ALL Thank you. regards, Hiroshi Saito

Excellent - another distro supported with no extra work <grin> /D
