Maybe I misunderstand you, but it sounds like you are referring to an
inner join (which is the standard way of joining):
SELECT .....
FROM SEPARATE_TABLE
, MAIN_TABLE
WHERE SEPARATE_TABLE.SOME_DATE = MAIN_TABLE.OTHER_DATE
;
