DBCP is wrapping the postgresql statement so you need to unwrap it using
something like:
Statement unwrapped =
((DelegatingPreparedStatement)prestmt).getInnermostDelegate();
org.postgresql.PGStatement pgstmt = (org.postgresql.PGStatement)unwrapped;
