Dave has already shown the statistics.
The number of "jdbc4.jar" downloads is impressive.
We still have to support JRE7 anyway, so supporting JRE6 as well is
not that big deal. It is a bit painful for developers/contributors,
but if we support multiple JREs, then two or three does not make much
difference.
I suggest we just stop spending our time on that discussion.
We do not depend on other libraries that plan to drop JRE6 support, so
it looks like there is no hurry other than "simplification of a build
system a bit".
