After you installed pgcrypto.so, just create a small function:

CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION sha1(text) RETURNS text AS '
SELECT
ENCODE(DIGEST($1, ''sha1"),"hex") AS result
' LANGUAGE 'SQL';
