Maybe this is helpful:
alvh=> select 'int'::regtype;regtype
---------integer
(1 row)
alvh=> select 'int4'::regtype;regtype
---------integer
(1 row)
alvh=> select 23::regtype;regtype
---------integer
(1 row)
