And phase 2...

Note, I am purposely limiting the features we list to a maximum of 5.
This is just a beta announcement, we need people to read it and anything
longer than one page and we lose the majority of the audience.

PostgreSQL 9.6 Beta1 Released!

The PostgreSQL Global Development Group announces today that the first
beta release of PostgreSQL 9.6 is available for download. This is a
feature freeze release and should contain all features and APIs of the
final release. Users are encouraged to begin testing their applications
against this latest release.

Major changes since 9.5

The 9.6 features several significant changes and exciting enhancements
including:

    * Parallel sequential scans, joins and aggregates

    * Enhanced synchronous replication support with Support for multiple
synchronous standby and remote_apply confirmation.

    * Phrase full text search

    * Pushdown support for joins, DML (UPDATE/DELETE) and sorts for
postgres_fdw

    * Frozen page data in visibility map for skipping vacuum on
already-frozen data

In particular, the the parallelism feature should bring a noticeable
increase in performance to supported queries.

Beta Schedule

This is first beta release of version 9.6, indicating that very few
user-visible feature changes are expected before final release. The
PostgreSQL Project will release additional betas as required for
testing, followed by one or more release candidates, until the final
release in late 2016. For further information please see:
