But on postgreSQL 7.2 reference manual, there is a statement for alter table
such as, ALTER TABLE [ ONLY ] table [ * ]   ALTER [ COLUMN ] column { SET | DROP } NOT NULL

Do you mean  this one hasn't been implemented?
