One of the key innovations is the expansion of the real-time monitoring center. Administrators can now view not only individual DBMS instances in it, but also failover clusters. This simplifies monitoring of distributed infrastructures: the cluster state is displayed as the state of a single object, and switching to analysis of individual nodes takes less time.

The Active Session Engine (ASE) performance diagnostics tool has received substantial improvements. In addition to general stabilization and refinements, PPEM 2.9 introduces the ability to manage profiling parameters and export snapshot data in raw form for subsequent analysis in external systems. Viewing of source prepared statements has been implemented, allowing a more complete picture to be obtained when analyzing queries. A seamless transition from session history to SQL statistics has also been added, simplifying problem diagnostics. In addition, the section interface, filters, and chart visualization have been improved.

In the security domain, the key change is the implementation of mutual TLS authentication (mTLS). In addition to API key authentication, the manager and agents can now mutually verify each other's authenticity using certificates when establishing an HTTPS connection. This strengthens protection of interaction between components and reduces the risk of an untrusted party connecting, which is especially important for infrastructures with heightened security requirements.

The platform has also received a number of other improvements:

  • In task and backup management, the ability to reassign tasks and rebind storages for instances being deleted has been added.
  • For BiHA clusters, management of the minimum number of healthy nodes when creating and modifying a topology has been implemented.
  • In repository maintenance, the ability to manually clean repository tables has appeared, in order to prevent server shutdown due to insufficient disk space.
  • A parameter has been added to the configuration for specifying a custom instance name template when using the automatic discovery mode.
  • A number of general vulnerabilities (CVEs) have been fixed, and the Go language has been updated to version 1.26.6.

The company also announced that the ‘Healthcheck Advisor’ module will be released in one of the forthcoming PPEM versions; this module enables an automatic analysis of the load status of DBMS instances based on collected telemetry data. The module will identify deviations in key database performance indicators, determine their level of severity and generate recommendations for further action. For each deviation identified, information will be available on the metric, the object under analysis, the target and actual values, the time the alarm was triggered, and the recommended measures to resolve the issue before it escalates into an incident.

The results will be presented in the "Problems and Recommendations" section with a summary of the managed instances, a breakdown of the issues detected by severity level, and a list of the instances with the highest number of issues identified. The PPEM Healthcheck Advisor will be included as part of the platform’s standard package and will not require separate installation or licensing.

Postgres Pro Enterprise Manager is included in all editions of the Postgres Pro DBMS and provides a unified web interface for monitoring, administration, and diagnostics of databases. Detailed information about the changes and instructions for upgrading to PPEM 2.9 are available in the Postgres Pro Enterprise Manager documentation.
