Ahh - try selecting View -> Default View. It sounds like your window
layout got messed up somehow.

Thanks, but no change in behaviour after doing that.

One extra clue: for the last few months normally invisible newlines in the sql pane have shown up with a funny character glyph.  Might not be related at all.
