Where is this RPM from? Mandrake's rpms are ususally compiled for the i586

Where did you get that RPM from? Is it a contrib RPM? If so - you may
expect that it may not be well packaged.
Anyway - what is the architechture of your machine? Spesifically: What
processor do you have? What does the kernel report (arch, uname-a,
/prc/cpuinfo)?
Have you changed any of rpm's config files?
If you suspect that rpm is wrong here, and that package would work fine on
your machine - use the --ignorearch switch to rpm (it's not as bad as
using --force, though).
Anyway - you can try grabbing the source rpm and recompiling it, using rpm
--rebuild . See the rpm man page for more information.
