Dear PostgreSQL Community Team,
I am writing to express my strong interest in establishing an official PostgreSQL User Group (PUG) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and eventually hosting a regional PostgreSQL community event here.
The tech and developer ecosystem in Addis Ababa is growing rapidly, with a soaring demand for robust, open-source database technologies. However, there is currently a gap in localized community support and formal networking for Postgres developers, database administrators, and data engineers in Ethiopia.
Our goals for this initiative are to:
  1. Establish a regular meetup cadence for local developers to share case studies and best practices.
  2. Build a local bridge to the broader African and global PostgreSQL community.
  3. Organize a localized PostgreSQL mini-conference/event in Addis Ababa once the user group gains traction.
We intend to follow the Recognised PostgreSQL User Group Guidelines fully, ensuring our events remain strictly non-commercial, technical, and open to all.
Could you please advise us on the next steps for formal recognition? Additionally, we would appreciate any guidance on how to connect with regional advocates who might be interested in supporting or speaking at our inaugural launch.
Thank you for your time, guidance, and dedication to the global Postgres community.
Warm regards,
Hulunlante Worku
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
