FWIW I tried his a few times, in FreeBSD 9.3 and 10.0 with Pg 9.2 I believe. I've not ever had it build successfully. I don't know why it is an option on the port if it doesn't work. I never filed a bug report because it just wasn't that important to me; it was just a curiosity.
