Anthony makes a good point, especially while pgAdmin 4 is still in development. There is a serious issue where pgAdmin 3 silently closes when you right-click on menu items to connect to a database or to open a table, for instance. I've seen this on OpenSuSE Linux when using a recently purchased machine but it has not been a big problem on VirtualBox VMs or the old machine I replaced. Still occurs sometimes, just not all the time.
I am aware of another user that pointed out this issue so I know I'm not the only one. It would be nice to get that bug in pgAdmin 3 fixed as I'm trying to encourage someone else to use it and they will be disappointed if it's unusable.
Well, don't get your hopes too high. The pgAdmin team is not big enough to work on both versions. They are working hard to get pgAdmin4 in a final release real soon, and you shouldn't expect any new releases of pgAdmin3 now or in the future.
And actually, we never did bugfixes in older releases, even with pgAdmin3.
New poster to the list, so apologies if this has been covered:
What's the plan for pgAdmin3 once version 4 reaches full release? Is it going to still be downloadable and installable? Any maintenance planned?
I'd like to at least see it stay available for those of us who prefer a native app over a browser-based app.
My expectation is that pgAdmin3 and older versions will remain available to download and use for a long time, as long as pgAdmin4. However, further development on it would probably slow to a trickle, eg security of compatibility or bug fixes but not major features. It would probably only get major enhancements if someone wants them enough to pay to have them developed or do it themselves. But downloading should work for a long time. -- Darren Duncan
