I think the better wording is to remove it :-)
Every NPO already accepts financial sponsorships, if you really want to support the NPOs, you should encourage people to go directly to those sites.
That is not correct at all. PostgreSQL Europe does not accept financial sponsors, and SPI certainly doesn't have a PostgreSQL sponsorship program. Those are just two quick examples from the top of my head; I'm sure there are more.
Secondarily, encouraging people to go directly to the NPO sites defeats the purpose of allowing the NPOs to list their sponsors on the main website - the whole point of the re-org of those pages was to help the NPOs supporting the project offer a much more visible benefit to their sponsors, as there isn't really any way to support postgresql.org directly.
