There'll definitely be something during index creation, though the exact directory name will vary per operation.
Do you use temp_tablespaces (easy way to find out is to "show temp_tablespaces")? There's one directory per temp
tablespace,so maybe you looked in the wrong one?

That needs to be set in postgresql.conf.
