Javier, I put these lines in my .tcshrc file in my home
directory (on Mac OS X), you'd have to use whatever startup file
your *nix shell uses :
setenv PGCLIENTENCODING UNICODE
setenv PGDATESTYLE 'ISO,European'
setenv PGTZ UTC
