Perhaps opening your connections as follows might help you

...
    // open connection
    conn = DriverManager.getConnection (url, usr, pwd);

    // set datestyle
    Statement st = conn.createStatement ();
    st.executeUpdate ("set datestyle='iso'");
    st.executeUpdate ("show datestyle");
    st.close ();
...
