I don't have a problem with that approach.  As you say, a
mobile-optimized version of the site would be the only real fix for some
of these issues, and it doesn't seem to me that we have the manpower or
interest for that.  (Yet, anyway.)

Only in this one regard of having an unexpected password prompt show up.
