The original pgAdmin was written because so many people kept asking what
tools were available for Windows.

(I'm sure you realise this, but pgAdmin is designed to connect to remote
servers as well as one running on localhost - it uses the ODBC interface for
this).

Yes, I would imagine that most people do run PostgreSQL on *nix, however, if
you watch the pgsql-cygwin list there are more and more people running on
Win32 these days. Not only that, but in a coporate environment (such as
where I work) *all* our desktop machines are Windows boxes running MS Office
and various other bespoke/semi bespoke apps that are only available for
Win32 platforms. Only our servers and 'toys' run *nix. The reality is, that
by far the majority of PCs in the world run Windows.

I would have preferred to write the new version of pgAdmin in a more cross
platform language, however it was decided by myself and the other developers
that VB was still the based option based on our skill and what we are trying
to achieve. In our discussions we did note that if/when C# becomes available
for *nix as well as Win32, then that may prove to be a suitable language to
port to.

Regards, Dave.
