This one is just for the record/search: it is solved.
But it is quite rare i think.
May save others time.
PostgreSQL for Windows setup.
While trying to connect the client errors with:
Could not connect to the server. Reason: could not receive data from
server: Software caused connection abort
The server logs show lots of lines:
background writer proces. (PID xyz) exited with exit code 0
terminating any other active server processes
all server processes terminated; reinitializing
I found one similar issue from some yeas ago that this was caused by
NOD32 AntiVirus' imon internet monitor.
My issue was caused by Sophos AV's web component.
Making an exception for the /bin directory worked immediately.
