Hello,
I have just subscribed to this list, so, following the Tradition, I have
to briefly introduce myself.
I am about 45, French. I'm working as an independent geologist, mostly
for mining exploration. By doing so, I use a lot of database
processing. Historically, I've used dBase III and dBase IV a lot, a few
proprietary specialised databases, then Crimosoft Access for some time,
I also worked on Oracle databases; I adopted postgreSQL about 5 years
ago and I became quite addicted.
Now, most, if not all, the data of the projects I'm working on, are
stored in my postgreSQL database, with postGIS extension.
I also do quite a lot of GIS (historically, Mapinfo, ArcView, ArcGIS,
some Grass; and now mostly qGIS). And I use some proprietary software
which connect to my postgreSQL database.
I use GNU/Linux since 1999, and I definitely stopped working with
windows in 2006 (this was when I became independant). All my work
machines run on Debian, some BSD, and then a few various distributions
here and there on old machines: some Mandrivas, PCLinuxOS, knoppix, an
LFS, Mageia, etc.
À+
