===== AUTOMATIC NOTICE ===== Your mail (attached below this notice) either came from an Internet site which is on my filter's list of sites which have problems with unsolicited bulk email (aka UCE or spam), or had headers or body text which looked like spam to the filter, so the filter intercepted it. If you are a bulk mailer, advertiser (commercial or political), or are sending any kind of "free offer", please remove this address from your mailing list and do not email me again. If you are not an advertiser or bulk mailer, you can resend your mail and get past the filters by including the password listed below on the Subject: line of your message. It can appear anywhere on the Subject: line -- it doesn't have to be first, last, or the only thing on that line. An easy way to do this is to forward this bounced message back to me and either change the Subject: line to the password, or add it to the beginning or end of the Subject: line, whatever is easier. Thank you! ********** The password is IamReal. ********** =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= >From owner-pgsql-sql@hub.org Mon Feb 8 19:44:29 1999 Received: from awod.com (grizzly.fas.com) by grizzly.fas.com with ESMTP ($Revision: 1.37.109.23 $/16.2) id AA142431021; Mon, 8 Feb 1999 19:43:42 -0500 Return-Path: <owner-pgsql-sql@hub.org> Received: from hub.org (majordom@hub.org [209.47.145.100]) by sumter.awod.com (8.8.7/8.8.8) with ESMTP id TAA21728 for <stanb@awod.com>; Mon, 8 Feb 1999 19:42:42 -0500 (EST) (envelope-from owner-pgsql-sql@hub.org) Received: from localhost (majordom@localhost) by hub.org (8.9.2/8.9.1) with SMTP id TAA99021; Mon, 8 Feb 1999 19:32:55 -0500 (EST) (envelope-from owner-pgsql-sql@hub.org) Received: by hub.org (TLB v0.10a (1.23 tibbs 1997/01/09 00:29:32)); Mon, 08 Feb 1999 19:32:49 +0000 (EST) Received: (from majordom@localhost) by hub.org (8.9.2/8.9.1) id TAA98994 for pgsql-sql-outgoing; Mon, 8 Feb 1999 19:32:46 -0500 (EST) (envelope-from owner-pgsql-sql@postgreSQL.org) Received: from front5.grolier.fr (front5.grolier.fr [194.158.96.55]) by hub.org (8.9.2/8.9.1) with ESMTP id TAA98977 for <pgsql-sql@postgreSQL.org>; Mon, 8 Feb 1999 19:32:38 -0500 (EST) (envelope-from fabrice.scemama@gesnet.net) Received: from gesnet.net (ppp-164-254.villette.club-internet.fr [195.36.164.254]) by front5.grolier.fr (8.9.0/8.9.2) with ESMTP id BAA14446 for <pgsql-sql@postgreSQL.org>; Tue, 9 Feb 1999 01:32:34 +0100 (MET) Message-Id: <36BF80B3.62B55848@gesnet.net> Date: Tue, 09 Feb 1999 01:26:28 +0100 From: Fabrice Scemama <fabrice.scemama@gesnet.net> Organization: GESNET Consulting X-Mailer: Mozilla 4.5 [en] (Win98; I) X-Accept-Language: en Mime-Version: 1.0 Cc: PgSQL-sql <pgsql-sql@postgreSQL.org> Subject: [SQL] Using Indexes with Pg References: <017801be515a$6e964180$a3f0f6ce@bryan.arcamax.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-pgsql-sql@postgreSQL.org Precedence: bulk X-Uidl: 309d81a0bfe50154bee4f5a6f1c85a96 X-SpamBouncer: 1.00h (2/03/99) X-SBRule: BULKTAG X-SBRule: Missing To: Hi people; I'm not sure my question is in topic, and if it's not please don't reply that mail on the list. What's the best way to use indexes (indices ?) with Pg ? Is it possible to have simple examples showing when it's interesting to create an index, and when it's not ? Are there some particular things to know regarding the way Pg works with indexes ? Thanks. Fabrice Scemama
