looks okay, maybe the sql-files are wrong?

kretschmer@tux:~$ echo "select current_date" > date.sql
kretschmer@tux:~$ psql test -f date.sql
    date
------------
 2009-05-19
(1 row)

I'm sure, your files contains invalid sql-code.
