It was a bugfix.  There was a spinlock problem in versions < 7.2 that
caused performance problems on SMP machines.  It is much better now.

BTW, 7.2.3 is the most recent release of 7.2; you should really run
it, because several bugs in 7.2.1 have been fixed.
