Thanks Bruce.

I am going to review the previous thread and attempt to distill what can be 
done.  I will then post a summary of what I found, with potential commentary. 
If a consensus is reached, I'd like to see the feature in 7.3.

Peter had mentioned it as well; might want to see if he has done anything as 
yet with it.

That being said, a patch exists for 7.2beta to effect a version of this 
change.  I will also review this patch as I can and see what will be required 
to make this work in CURRENT.

IMO, the key is that if the switch is not specified the current behavior is 
default.  If specified, it will do its thing.
