I think this is related to the same problem I was having before. I'm running the wrong installation of postgres. I
haveinstalled 7.1.1 in /usr/local/ and i see that /etc/rc.d/init.d/postgresql is looking in the /var/lib/pgsql to start
postgres. I'll have to go through the file and point it to the right directory.
