Here are the results of my analysis of the cvs logs for
email addresses, with the goal of counting the number of
countries contributing to Postgres by looking at the
domain part of the address. There were a total of 573
distinct names (e.g. Tom Lane) mentioned in the logs, and a
total of 319 distinct email addresses. The email count is
very accurate: I even accounted for people who have used more
than one email, so that "lockhart at fourpalms.org" and
"lockhart at alumni.caltech.edu" were counted as one email.

These email addresses consisted of 43 unique domains.
If you lump "com", "edu", "net", "gov", and "us" together,
it results in a total of 39 different countries, simply
based on the email addresses. The first number in the list
below represents the number of distinct emails with the
listed domain, and the second number in parenthesis
represents the total number of emails. If anyone knows of
contributors from countries not mentioned here, please let
me know.*

(Note: with today's sad tradition of poor countries selling
their domain name to the highest bidder, some domains are
most likely not used by people in that country. Examples
include "cc", "tv", and possibly "to". There is a lone "to"
in the list, which probably brings the total down to 38.)
