$ dlocate libz.so.1
zlib1g: /usr/lib/libz.so.1.2.3
zlib1g: /usr/lib/libz.so.1
/usr/lib/libz.so.1 is a symbolic link (to /usr/lib/libz.so.1.2.3 in my
case -- Ubuntu). Does its target exist? Try reinstalling zlib1g
(apt-get --reinstall install zlib1g).
