There was a lot of discussion this week regarding when to move
7.5 into beta. While the tentative date of June 1st had been floated,
there seems to be some thought that we could delay beta to help finish
several of the high profile features that are currently under
development such as tablespaces, 2 phase-commit, and win32. While none
of them are complete yet, most already have designs worked out and rough
cut patches in development, so hopefully they can be finished up and
included before feature freeze.

As far as the current sources are concerned, the weeks biggest
impact centered on inclusion of Arthur Olson's public domain timezone
library into the back end. While originally included in an effort to
bring the win32 port up to speed, there are a number of problems that
can be fixed on the unix side as well including improving the
reliability of detecting legal timezones and solving some cross platform
portability issues. Also worth mentioning is the posting of the full set
of patches for phase 1 of the PITR functionality to the -patches list.
This set of patches gives a (more or less) working implementation of
PITR, though there is still quite a bit to be done to make things
general useful. Still, it is a good sign of things to come.
