== PostgreSQL Weekly News - April 16th 2003 == I'm sure many folks out there have seen parts of the "momentum thread"; it passed through several different mailing lists over the last week. For those that missed it's beginning it is available in the archives at http://fts.postgresql.org/db/mw/msg.html?mid=1365942. It's always good to look at things from a more global perspective and realize that we are moving toward critical mass, even if there is still some distance to go. On the current development track, we have a pretty obscure list of miscellaneous fixes this week: Error recovery for SSL_read/SSL_write calls was fixed, a guard against macro versions of isblank(), path.c is now included in libpq, and an encoding conversion function bug was fixed. Clog's error reporting was reorganized so that PANIC on clog I/O error can be reduced to a plain ERROR in an effort to make it a little less painful to deal with data-corruption problems and eqjoinsel's logic for case where MCV lists are not present now accounts for NULLs per example from Alec Mitchell. JDBC some some cleanup from Nic Ferrier for his recent additions for cursor based queries. The addDataType method is now exposed to the PGConnection to allow users to add datatypes thanks to Dave Cramer. Peter Eisentraut continues his work on streamlining the PostgreSQL documentation with numerous cleanups, reorganization, and formatting changes. The Japanese PostgreSQL FAQ was also updated, thanks to Jun Kuwamura. All translations of the PostgreSQL FAQ are available at http://www.postgresql.org/docs/ and new translations are always welcome. It's also worth a mention that Tom Lane has written up a first draft of the revised Front-End/Back-End protocol revision. It's available on the web at http://developer.postgresql.org/docs/postgres/protocol.html. Feedback is welcome, best posted to the -hackers mailing list. == PostgreSQL Product News == tcap version 1.2 released http://gborg.postgresql.org/project/tcap/news/newsfull.php?news_id=107 Moveable Type Nominated for 2003 Webby Awards http://www.sixapart.com/log/2003/04/2003_webby_awar.shtml == PostgreSQL In the News == New database new luck[zope] http://www.tissot.de/blogs/archives/000131.html#000131 Red Hat applies open source to enterprise apps http://www.vnunet.com/News/1140079 PostgreSQL on Mandrake 9.1 with Java http://vsbabu.org/mt/archives/2003/04/13/postgresql_on_mandrake_91_with_java.html == Upcoming Events == Novell BrainShare: Salt Lake City, Utah: April 13-18 A PostgreSQL session including install, configure, administration, and interfacing with PHP http://www.novell.com/brainshare Open Source Conference: Portland, Oregon: July 7-11 A PostgreSQL track will be available at this years conference. http://conferences.oreillynet.com/os2003 == PostgreSQL Weekly News - April 16th 2003 == Don't forget to read Elein Mustain's Weekly Summary of the PostgreSQL General Mailing List http://www.varlena.com/GeneralBits/ On the Web: http://www.postgresql.org http://advocacy.postgresql.org
