I don't think plugging in localhost will work for a jdbc connection reference. Try something like jdbc:postgresql://server:port/dbname that should do the trick (read: worked for me) though I am having some other issues with DbVisualizer concerning jdk/jdbc conflicts of some sort. Assuming you get connected you can check out the thread in the pgsql-jdbc list.
