A Caldera eServer 2.3 system was made available to me to build and test on --
but an eDesktop machine was not, that's why.

Caldera eServer 2.3 has an ancient version of RPM --2.5.5 IIRC. eDesktop has
a newer RPM, version 3.0.2 IIRC.

You might have success in installing the eServer 2.3 RPM on eDesktop -- I
don't know, as I just built and tested it on eServer 2.3. There may be
package differences.

You _can_, however, rebuild the source RPM, producing your own set of RPM's
to install.

Not having access to an eDesktop box, I unfortunately don't know any further
details. I do remember that getting it to build on the eServer system was
difficult due to the old RPM version.

With that said, the RPM is designed to work the best on a Red Hat box,
forbetter or for worse, as that is what Ihave and use.
