ExtenDB Announces Free Business Intelligence Database Cluster with
PostgreSQL 8.1 Support
WESTBOROUGH, MA - December 15, 2005 - ExtenDB Inc, announced today the
availability of a free version of their ExtenDB Parallel Server Standard
Edition clustered database product, which now also includes expanded
support for the PostgreSQL 8.1 database.
The Standard Edition allows users to cluster together four servers
running the open source database software PostgreSQL. It is targeted for
the Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing market. ExtenDB's
database engine partitions or replicates the data amongst the nodes, and
intelligently parallelizes submitted SQL requests, achieving fast query
response times by utlizing all of the nodes in the cluster.
ExtenDB is also offering three different support plans to meet varying
customer needs.
"We are pleased to make this software freely downloadable from our
website," remarked Mason Sharp, founder of ExtenDB. "We are offering a
free or low-cost solution to companies that are just getting started
with Business Intelligence, as well as offering a more cost-effective
alternative for those using other solutions."
The software utilizes the open source database PostgreSQL. PostgreSQL
8.1 adds important features for dealing with large amounts of data in
Business Intelligence, such as table partitioning. With ExtenDB and
PostgreSQL together, data can be partitioned in smaller segments across
multiple nodes, achieving more efficient query processing and
parallelism at the same time.
For those users whose needs cannot be met by the Standard Edition,
ExtenDB is also offering the Workgroup Edition and Enterprise Edition.
These versions are architected to scale to many more nodes than the
Standard Edition.
