What are you referring to when you say "firewall"? portsentry?
ipchains total lockdown setup?

Can you please explain what you mean here? Was it just a straight
kernel upgrade? Where does the performance increase come from? I'm
still running 2.2 and I an trying to hold off upgrading for a while
just to make sure that 2.4 goes through a few revisions and fixes. In
particular, what runs so much faster with 2.4?
Cheers.
