I am thinking about using a trigger for generating invoices.
 
Firstly I would like to know if triggers in postgres are generally reliable and bug free. Which is the best language to use (PL/pgSQL, PL/perl) for speed, reliablility and functionality?
 
Secondly Is it possible to get trigger procedures to call other external functions ie. to generate and email or print a pdf.
