Chapter 11. What’s New in PPEM 2.5

PPEM 2.5 introduces the following major upgrades and improvements:

  • Added the ability to perform automatic major migration of BiHA clusters.

  • Added support of the remote mode when creating a local backup storage.

    For more information, refer to Chapter 61.

  • Added the ability to call the pg_diagdump function as well as download and delete diagnostic files.

    For more information, refer to Chapter 49 and Section 48.1.5.

  • Added support of VictoriaLogs as an external data source for logs.

    For more information, refer to Section 26.3.

  • Added support for instance initialization and backup recovery performed by an operating system user without the required privileges.

PPEM 2.5 also includes the following functional upgrades and improvements:

  • Operation management.

    Improved the user interface page for viewing mass instance operations and steps of individual operations.

    Added the Step execution timeout, s configuration parameter for mass instance operations.

    Added the ability to view detailed step information.

  • Alerts and triggers.

    Improved the user interface page for alerts and triggers.

    Added new variables for the alert text.

    Added new alert priorities.

  • CPU usage reports.

    Added the ability to view, configure, and download CPU usage reports.

  • Query plan visualization.

    Added the ability to visualize query plans from the Activity and SQL statistics pages.

  • Backup.

    Added support for external directories when creating an instance from a backup.

  • Instance roles.

    Added the ability to create instance roles.

    For more information, refer to Section 58.1.

  • Task schedules.

    Added the ability to edit task schedules for different object classes, i.e., backup schedules, statistics collecting schedules for tables and databases, reindexing schedules for tables and databases, vacuuming schedules for tables and databases, and sampling schedules. Task schedules can be edited from both the Task console and from object pages.

  • BiHA.

    Added the ability to create BiHA clusters with a referee node as well as add a referee node to the existing BiHA cluster.

  • Security.

    Added the audit event log, also known as audit trails, for troubleshooting, monitoring, accountability, and other purposes. For PPEM to log audit events, the logging must be configured first in the ppem-manager.yml manager configuration file.

  • Postgres Pro Enterprise support.

    Added support for Postgres Pro Enterprise 18 for the repository service instance and agents.
